At Rocky Plains, our bison, also known as American Buffalo, offers a slightly sweeter and more robust flavor compared to beef. Bison meat is very tender, and can be prepared in the same manner in which you're used to preparing beef - just at a lower temperature.

We raise our own buffalo in northern Colorado, grazing in their natural habitat eating a mixture of grasses, including their native buffalo grass. We do provide some natural hay as a supplement in their pastures, but our buffalo are always free to roam about as they choose. Don't be fooled by the bison meat you can buy in supermarkets, even that found in health food stores; most producers supplying large stores finish their buffalo on grain, similar to feedlots. On just three months of grain, the nutritional value of bison meat is significantly lower.
